dynamic movement

Summer Workshop Series | 6/27 – 9/19, 2019

Thursdays | 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Incorporating movement forms from across disciplines we’ll target different areas of the body for a head to toe body makeover. You’ll leave this workshop with the knowledge to build your own workout plan that will fit your individual needs.

This series is like a movement buffet – you get to sample everything and take what works best for you!

Class format:

We’ll start out with a short education segment, followed by targeted strength training, cardio, and stretching. Once you learn all the different ways to tone and strengthen different areas of your body, you’ll be able to customize your own workout plan to keep with you.

movement forms:

With influences from Nia (a style of fusion fitness), we’ll incorporate movements from the dance arts, healing arts, and martial arts. We’ll also utilize more traditional exercises as well.

Continuously changing or developing
as related to movement.

1st Block – Lower Body (6/27, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25)
*No Class 7/4 due to holiday
Starting from the ground up, we’ll cover all the major (and minor) areas of the lower body with movements designed to tone and strengthen.

2nd Block - Core (8/1, 8/8, 8/15, 8/22)
A strong core is essential to performing most physical activities. Without it, you are more susceptible to back pain and injury. We’ll go over movements that will build up your core muscles and strengthen the whole body.

3rd Block – Upper Body (8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19)
The upper body can easily be forgotten, but not this time. We’ll spend an entire block focused on movements to tone and strengthen the upper body areas giving them the attention they deserve!

Instructor: kayla h.

I am a blue belt certified Nia instructor and new runner who loves spending time in nature with my dog.  My fitness background includes 10+ years of formal dance training, four years on my college’s rowing team, 20+ years hiking, and a few mountain climbing trips. Since discovering running last year, I have completed two ultra-marathons and most recently, a half marathon.  Running and dancing have both helped me fight depression and anxiety, as well as improved my overall self-confidence. I look forward to sharing the joy of movement with you!

The benefits of adding physical activity to one’s life cannot be overstated. This workshop series is designed to benefit anyone but will also keep runners in mind as a form of cross-training.
